The garden begins where the curtain moves.
RIBBON GARDEN: Green Currents is an original photograph by John DeFaro for Green Religion. Green ribbon, string and yarn cross the frame like leaves, currents and shifting light. Human-made materials enter the living garden, becoming momentarily inseparable from what grows around them.
Much of the ribbon came from The Things Lab, a celebrated Miami reuse project whose nomadic pop-ups, community workshops and imaginative recirculation of materials have inspired Green Religion. Through his friendship with its founders, DeFaro has gathered ribbon and yarn there over several years, allowing donated remnants to continue their lives in new forms.
Hundreds of these fragments now embellish the patio overhang at DeFaro’s Miami home. Together they form a suspended curtain between shelter and garden, both barrier and invitation.
In Green Currents, ribbon resembles leaf, fiber becomes vine, and the found becomes newly alive.
Offered as an open-edition canvas photograph created exclusively for Green Religion. Each canvas is produced on demand, helping reduce unnecessary overproduction while supporting Green Religion’s work in art, climate awareness and eco-storytelling.
