An interactive 3D sculpture for meditation and promise.
Hold it. Turn it. Spin it. Notice.
The Morning Toy is an original handmade sculpture by John DeFaro for Green Religion. It feels like something grown in a vegetable garden of JOY, then gathered for the human hand. Each is made individually, and no two are exactly alike.
Created to be held, moved and contemplated, The Morning Toy transforms touch and texture into an eco-spiritual moment of play, pause and participation. It even floats!
How the name arrived
The name arrived during a morning meditation. Holding the sculpture in one hand and then both, I turned it while noticing its weight, balance and raised floral surface. Rubbing it across my palms gently massaged my hands. Moving its texture behind my neck and along my arms and legs, it became an intimate object of meditation, sensory comfort and personal ritual.
Voilà: The Morning Toy.
First created in 2023, The Morning Toy begins with a cork ball and pine curtain ring joined into one rounded form. Built by hand. Acrylic polymer shapes its raised floral surface, followed by five or more layers of acrylic paint. Below, the natural cork remains exposed.
Cork is familiar from quiet places around the home, yet it is tree bark: light, resilient and buoyant. Here, it connects domestic life back to trees and the canopy.
More curious than a stress ball, The Morning Toy does not demand attention. It politely invites it.
At this intimate scale, it enters the hand and daily life: held, turned, spun, contemplated, shared or given. Remaining not so big in a big-minded world, it makes participation personal and becomes a gentle expression of AWEARness.
